Project Title

Modeling and Simulation in Systems Biology

Program Location

University of Connecticut Health Center, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032

Program Background

10-week, in-residence, intensive summer research program, focused on modeling and simulation in systems biology, for U.S. citizen or permanent resident undergraduate students from around the United States and Puerto Rico. It will provide participants with a broad view of available career opportunities for mathematical scientists in academia, industry, and government. Participants will have the opportunity to expand their professional network of peers and mentors.

Award

Eligible participants will receive $5,000 stipend. Housing, meals and travel allowance.

Course Title

Big Genomic Data Skills Training for Professors

Course Location

Highseas Conference Center – The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME

Course Dates

May 21 – May 26, 2017

Course Background

The 5 day training program will include seminars, extensive hands-on data analyses, evening activities and collaborative curriculum development work.

The purpose of the course is to offer training to professors from small colleges, regional universities, HBCU and INBRE institutions in big data-computational biology. The goal of the program is to enable professors to launch Big Data or Computational Biology courses at their home institutions. Professors will be trained, receive a curricular model and be offered the ongoing technical support required to teach undergraduate courses in Biomedical Big Data science.

The 5 day training program will include morning seminars or lectures and extensive hands-on data analyses activities each afternoon. Evening activities will include seminars and collaborative curriculum development work.

The purpose of the course is to offer training to professors who teach graduate students.  The goal of this program is to enable professors to launch comprehensive Big Data or Computational Biology training for graduate students at their institution. The course will cover a variety of genomic data analysis topics and allow faculty to jump start their knowledge of experimental design, data analysis, data integration and data visualization.

The Department of Health Career Opportunity Programs at UConn Health sponsors the following Aetna Health Professions Partnership Initiative (HPPI) summer and academic year programs.
